Connect to Glasgow... |
Is it serendipity? Or perhaps a bit of faerie magic?
Our WEE Celtic Weekend actually coincides with the
Celtic Connections at the Glasgow Royal Concert
Hall.
Celtic Connections is the biggest winter music
festival in the world, showcasing some 300 events throughout
the city of Glasgow, Scotland.
Favorites from the PaperMoon stage – the once and
future – have either played or will be playing the 2006
Glasgow event, including Gráda from Dublin, scheduled
to play Eureka Springs St. Patrick’s Day; Gretchen
Peters, slated for the final Women’s Voices Series March
31; and both the Irish bands Téada and Danú, who
played Eureka Springs in 2005.

TARTANIC! |
“Imagine one dancer, six drums, six drones, 18 notes, fast
fingers, high comedy, flying bagpipes, taste- defying stunts,
scorching hot music played at over 120 beats per minute with
driving speed and high volume, all brought to you by five men
without pants.” Adrian Walter

A WEE Celtic Weekend January 20 to 22
A weekend celebrating Scottish heritage, music, poetry, food and drink
will overtake the tiny hamlet of Eureka Springs and castle
Crescent Hotel Friday and Saturday, January 20 and 21. Timed for
the birthday remembrance of the great Scottish poet, Robert Burns,
the "Winter Enclave: Eureka" Celtic Weekend in the highlands of the
Ozarks calls clans here and yon to unite under their colors and customs.
For those who travel the globe in search of the band Tartanic,
whose followers are ever-hungry for more of this unique (and rather wild)
music theatre, the curtain draws open at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, January 21,
at the Eureka Springs City Auditorium.

8th Annual Robert Burns Night
Gather with the clans in Eureka Springs' most-renowned
castle to celebrate the 247th Birthday Bash of the Bard of
Scotland.
In its 8th year in Eureka Springs, the Robert Burn’s Night
Birthday Bash will be held Friday, January 20, at the
historic 1886 Crescent Hotel Crystal Dining Room, where the
pomp and circumstance of all seven Celtic nations will be honored
and no doubt well represented.
This annual celebratory tribute to the life, works and spirit of
the great Scottish poet, Robert Burns, commences throughout the
globe on or around the Bard’s birthday, January 25. The evening
promises a stentorious display of pipes, poetry and pride, as
Scots-folk and Celto-philes from near and far join together for a
traditional Scottish meal, the drinking of Scotch whiskey and the
recitation of works by Robert Burns, along with general merry-making
and song-singing. |

| The Bard of Scotland |
|
Robert Burns' greatest contribution to
Scotland is in his songs. He is honored worldwide as the
Bard of Scotland - not only for his extraordinary poetry
in the Scots dialect, but for reviving the folk music
that so exquisitely reflects the soul of Scottish
heritage. | |

TARTANIC! - In Concert
Put a group of men in kilts, give them bagpipes and a bevy
of drums and you have the ingredients for Tartanic: multi-media,
reverent and irreverent, taste-defying comedy music
theatre.
The proof in the pudding, however, is the high-energy pulse of
men having a really good time reliving hundreds of years of
traditional and innovative music from Scotland, Brittany, Arabia,
Africa and America.
Take the loudest instruments one can imagine (bagpipes and drums)
mix in tunes from the hills of Scotland to the hills to the hills of
Brazil and then try to keep up.
Tartanic take tunes right out of the traditional and into the
sensational with unbelievable humor and theatrics.
This is not just music; this is a ‘Tartanic
Experience!’
Opening for Tartanic is Celtic-folk trio Rowan joining the weekend fun from Lawrence, Kansas.
